WECA is a membership of around 45 engineering and manufacturing businesses dedicated to increasing the number of skilled mechanical engineers in Waikato.
WECA works with educators at both secondary and tertiary level to support students interested a career in mechanical engineering.

WECA's industry members think it's important for business to connect with schools.
WECA works with secondary schools in a number of ways:
- Raise awareness about careers in mechanical engineering
- Provide information about the various career options in mechanical engineering
- Provide industry exposure through site visits, after school work, work experience
- Support for Gateway programme
- Facilitate connections between students and employers
- Assist with developing career and learning paths
WECA is currently communicating with around 170 secondary school students in Waikato who have expressed an interest in mechanical engineering.
