Welcome to our new-look regular update. I am pleased to announce that this will soon be followed by a brand new, high performance website thanks to WECA sponsor VO2. These technology changes will help us grow membership and enable us to continue serving existing members with excellence.

It has been good catching up with many of you recently on the careers expo and event circuit. Thanks to all members who support these activities, either by taking time to promote our industry to young people or by sponsoring member events. I would like to thank Sally Birch, WECA co-ordinator, for the key role she has played in making these key activities a success. In the months and years ahead we can expect to see this worthwhile work flow on to an increase in good young people keen to acquire skills in our sector.

It was heartening to hear WECA receive a pat on the back from BusinessNZ chief Phil O'Reilly at our recent event at Waikato Innovation Park. Phil sees WECA's work as important in helping increase the skills New Zealand industry needs to flourish.

Last but certainly not least, I would like to commend you all for being proactive and involved in forging a better future for our sector and New Zealand's economy.

    All the best,
    Mary Jensen, WECA manager
